FULTON MANSION
Acknowledgments
Visitors to the Fulton Mansion have been requesting a book about
the house for as long as it has been open to the public. It was the goal of many past employees and volunteers to achieve this task, and we
are happy that the Texas Historical Commission has made the book a reality. Mark Wolfe, Executive Director, and Donna Williams, Historic Sites Division Director, supported this goal. Hal Simon, Interpretive Planner, served as coordinator between the publisher, Mansion staff, and the Public Information and Education staff.
Several current and past state employees have helped in the creation of this book. Zane Morgan, Katherine Grier, and Arlinda Abbott wrote and compiled information for the first interpretive guides and the historical refurnishing plan. Beth Dodd Ellis edited and reorganized these original documents into a new docent manual about fifteen years later. Marsha Hendrix, Fulton Mansion Site Manager, and Cassie Dieterich, Mansion Educator, edited all of the existing information and included new research uncovered in the last five years.
Staff at the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at the University of Texas provided space, time, and support for Mansion staff to scan documents from the Fulton [George W. and James] Papers, 1836–1916. The family letters, receipts, and documents included in this book are primary sources located within this collection. Unless otherwise indicated, images are the property of the Fulton Mansion State Historic Site.
Staff members working at the Mansion owe a great deal of gratitude to the Friends of Fulton Mansion and the volunteer docents. Their support for ongoing activities and programs makes it possible for staff to accomplish special projects such as this one.
