A Place at the Table: Meriwether Lewis Electric Cooperative

November 4, 2014 By Katie Gardner Leave a Comment

Meriwether_Hardcover

Meriwether Lewis Electric Cooperative came to life in 1939. As a member-owned, electric utility, its goal is much the same now as it was then—to bring a better way of life, to provide low-cost, reliable electricity and to be a good neighbor to those we serve.

As MLEC celebrates its seventy-fifth birthday, it seems only natural that we use a cooperative effort to mark the occasion. This book not only shares some historical facts and photos, but it also opens the kitchens of past and present employees, as well as Board members and their families to share time-tested, family approved, recipes.

We often say that our members don’t have to set an extra place for us at the table but that MLEC is with them as they gather family and friends. We help with the cooking, the cleaning up and most of the other chores of daily living. MLEC is there, too, in the glow of the lamplight, the warmth of the rooms, the music from the radio, and the sounds of the television. We supply the electricity so you can feel the power of the moment with friends and family. It was that way in 1939 and with a strong, seventy-five-year legacy behind us and more ahead, it’s still true today.
